Frequently Asked Question (PMU)

1. What is Permanent Makeup (PMU)?

  • PMU (Permanent Makeup), also known as cosmetic tattooing or micro-pigmentation, enhances your natural features by implanting pigment into the skin.

  • Common areas include brows, lips, and eyeliner.

  • Results look natural and typically last 1–3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.

2. How long does PMU last?

  • Color typically lasts 1–3 years, depending on your skin and care routine.

  • PMU is permanent, meaning pigment will always remain in the skin — even as it fades, your brows won’t return to a completely bare look.

  • We use two different types of pigments, chosen based on your desired outcome.

  • Let your artist know the look you want — the right pigment will be selected accordingly.

  • Factors like oily skin, sun exposure, skincare products, and lifestyle can affect how long the color stays fresh.

3. Does it hurt?

  • Pain level is mild to none for most clients.

  • A topical numbing cream is applied after the first pass to keep you comfortable throughout the session.

4. What is the healing process like?

  • Healing takes around 6–8 weeks, with full results visible by week 4–6.

  • You may experience light scabbing or flaking — this is called the peeling stage, usually happening between weeks 1 and 4.

  • The color will look darker at first, then lighten as your skin heals and pigment settles.

5. What’s the difference between Microblading, Ombre Brows, Nano Brows, and Combo Brows?

Nano Brows

  • Hair-like strokes using a machine instead of a blade.

  • Ideal for sensitive or oily skin and longer-lasting results.

Ombre / Powder Brows

  • Soft, shaded, and filled-in look using a machine.

  • Great for all skin types and lasts longer than microblading.

Combo Brows (Nano Shading)

  • A blend of hair strokes and shading for a more defined, fuller look.

  • Great for those wanting both natural texture and soft depth.

Microblading

  • Creates hair-like strokes using a manual blade.

  • Best for dry to normal skin.

6. What should I expect after my PMU session?

You may notice:

  • Mild redness or swelling for 1–2 days (completely normal).

  • The color will appear darker for the first few days, then gradually lighten as healing progresses.

  • Flaking or peeling is normal — do not pick at it.

  • You’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions to help ensure a smooth healing process.

7. Do I need a touch-up?

  • The 6–8 week touch-up after your first appointment is OPTIONAL.

  • You may want a touch-up if:

    • Your skin didn’t retain pigment well.

    • You’d like to go darker.

    • You’d like to adjust the thickness of your shape.

  • If you’re happy with your initial results, you don’t have to come back.

  • After that, annual touch-ups are recommended to refresh color and prevent oxidation (color shifting).

8. Is PMU safe?

  • Yes — when done by a licensed and trained professional using:

    • Sterile, disposable tools

    • High-quality pigments

    • Strict sanitation and safety protocols

  • These measures prevent infection and cross-contamination.

9. How long does a procedure take?

  • Each PMU session takes around 1–2 hours.

  • Time varies depending on:

    • The style of brows chosen.

    • How well your skin retains pigment.

10. Why are some brow services cheaper than others?

  • Pricing depends on:

    • The artist’s experience, certification, and whether they are licensed.

    • The quality of pigments, tools, and equipment used.

    • The type of technique being performed (Microblading, Nano, Ombre, etc.).

  • Lower prices may also mean the service is being done by a student, beginner artist, or someone with limited experience.

  • Some cheaper services may cut corners on pigment quality, sanitation, or training — which can lead to poor retention or unsafe results.

  • Always choose your artist based on skill, experience, and safety standards, not just price.

11. Should I do Botox or lip fillers before or after PMU?

  • Botox:

    • Schedule PMU first, then Botox at least 2 weeks after.

    • This ensures your artist works with your natural facial expressions and brow position.

  • Lip Fillers:

    • You can do PMU before or at least 2 weeks after lip fillers.

    • Let your artist know if you’ve recently had filler so they can adjust the lip shape design if needed.

12. What is a Lip Tattoo (Lip Blush)?

  • Lip Tattoo (Lip Blush) enhances the natural color and shape of your lips using soft, shaded pigment.

  • It gives the lips a tinted, fuller appearance — like wearing a light layer of lip tint 24/7.

  • Healing time is about 7–10 days, with full color showing in 4–6 weeks.

  • Results last 2–3 years depending on your skin, lifestyle, and aftercare.

  • It can also help even out lip tone, define the border, and make lips appear naturally youthful.
